Our Timeline

Turkish Date
Our third time using our lucky dip of ideas sent us on a romantic dinner date. I chose a Turkish restaurant that had amazing reviews for quality of food and service, and we weren’t disappointed. We started with three types of hommus with fried crackers and fresh carrot and cucumber…Read More
Anniversary Lunch
Sandra took me to lunch to celebrate our first anniversary – counted from our first kiss. She gave me three options and a deadline to make my choice. We ended up having an Indian banquet at a restaurant in Mercado del Rio, an upmarket food court we’d been to during…Read More
San Carlos
We decided to spend our anniversary weekend away, and Sandra had heard of a town to the west surrounded by waterfalls. We arrived at our B&B late on Friday night, lucky to have found a tuktuk when we got off the bus, because they normally stop running at 10pm. The…Read More
Picnics
After almost daily rain since I returned at the beginning of February kept the ground wet, we were finally able to put down a cloth in the Botanical Gardens last weekend. While we lay there reading together, a battered, but beautiful butterfly landed on my leg, then on Sandra’s finger.…Read More
Meeting Sandra’s Father
Sandra’s father hasn’t been well, and was due to have a heart operation soon. I wanted to meet him before then in case anything went wrong. He lives in a town a two-hour bus ride from Bogota, though to call it a town is an understatement. It felt as big…Read More
Playing Frog
On our return to Bogota, Sandra’s mum took us to play Rana (which means ‘frog’), one of her favourite games. The object is to throw discs or, in the case of this new version, steel balls at various holes in the top of a stand from about three metres away.…Read More
Isla Grande
We left Cartagena proper for three nights on Isla Grande in a fairly rustic island hotel. Sandra had been given the name of this one by a friend and assumed it was the only option, but we soon discovered that it was one of about twenty places tourists could stay…Read More
