Our Timeline

Santa Elena
Medellin finally lifted the covid lockdowns after almost six months, but (perhaps by design) only once the rainy season had started, and most indoor activities were still closed so it barely made any difference. It was therefore a joy to get out of town last weekend for a weekend in…Read More
Birthday Mishaps
I had big plans for Sandra’s birthday this year – or at least many small plans that would add up. Unfortunately, most of them failed. The idea was to spread out a number of things that she was craving over the week. The list included an Indian dinner, salsa dancing…Read More
Quarantine Jig-Saw
In this time of Covid nothing is better than doing a jig-saw puzzle. This was our second time. It was especially challenging for me because Murray is very familiar with puzzles, which means he’s very good at them. This one was a beautiful, colourful, classic Japanese garden, where tiny…Read More
2 Year Anniversary – in Quarantine
We were hopeful that the quarantine would be lifted in time for us to celebrate our anniversary in a town with a river or pool. Failing that, at least a dinner out or a picnic in a park somewhere – anywhere but at home. After 100 days of quarantine, we…Read More
Cooking Experiments
As part of our ‘try something new every day’ initiative, we decided to try cooking some healthy desserts. One of Sandra’s students put us on to a web-based fitness site, which has 300 workout videos and 800 recipes. We chose a carrot cake and a tiramisu. Both turned out really…Read More
Quarantine Dinner Date
With the quarantine set to extend beyond 2 weeks, we decided to challenge ourselves to do something new every day. Some examples included working at the breakfast bar, trying a new recipe or doing origami. One night we decided to order in and have a romantic date on the balcony.Sandra’s…Read More
Jericó
We chose to visit the next town on our list, Jerico, on the weekend before my flight back to Australia. It was everything we’d love for our future home – comfortable climate, warm people, beautiful scenery, good food, a cultural centre with regular live music, and generally not too noisy.…Read More
Medellin Zoo
Sandra heard about the local zoo this week, so we decided to check it out. We were distressed at the state of some of the habitats, but really enjoyed seeing the lion sleeping on his rock with the lioness on her back in the cave below, he antics of the…Read More
Jigsaw Puzzle
Sandra had never done a jigsaw puzzle before, and I thought it would be fun to do one together, so I gave her one for Christmas. She loves dogs and her favourite flower is the sunflower, so I was delighted to find a 1000 piece puzzle (a good starting size)…Read More
